Tournament rules
English tournaments in Sweden are played with Swedish rules, which differ somewhat from ABSP rules and NSA rules:

  • The player who is first in the game chooses between two advantages: starting to play, or determining how to place the board, clock and tile bag. If turnable boards are used, which has been the case for almost all matches in English, the choice is obvious. However, in Swedish games such boards are never used.
  • If six successive zero scores are played, the game ends automatically. Such moves are passes, exchanges and turn losses after successful challenges.
  • A player with more than five minutes overtime, loses the game automatically. Only the loser's remaining tiles are deducted, and if the loser's score difference after that is less than 150 lower than the winner's, the loser's score is reduced to reach that 150 point difference.
  • A player who goes out with no tiles left, increases the score by the total value of the unplayed tiles of the opponent. The other player reduces the score by the value of the remaining tiles.

The time for each player, however, is 25 minutes instead of 30 minutes in Swedish games.
